AI Made Simple

From Zero to Advanced — The Complete Guide to Using ChatGPT Like a Professional

I started knowing almost nothing about ChatGPT. By the end of this course, I can confidently use ChatGPT to think, learn, create, analyze, research, solve problems, improve my work, build AI-powered workflows, and get dramatically better results from AI.

About 25–40 hours with the projects, quizzes, and capstone. Move in order if you are new. Skim early levels only if you already prompt every day — still do the exercises.

What you can turn off

This course

Level 1 opens without an account. On a film, Voice turns narration off. Certificates has a control to reset progress stored in this browser.

Quiz scores, the certificate name, and watched films stay on this device. Clearing this site’s data in the browser removes them. The course does not keep a cloud copy.

Your ChatGPT account

Chat history, memory, and training choices live in the ChatGPT account you use, not here. Open that account’s current privacy settings and your workplace rule. This course will not guess which toggle you have.

Why this is not a feature tour

ChatGPT matters because a lot of knowledge work is language: explaining, drafting, sorting, questioning, and turning a mess into a next step. People who can direct that well will do better work. People who only type a topic into a box will get an average paragraph and call it AI.

Knowing how to ask a question is not enough. You need to know what the system is doing, what it must not invent, how to structure hard tasks, and when a human still decides. That is AI literacy as a working skill, not as a headline.

This course will not tell you that AI replaces everyone, and it will not promise you a new income. It will teach you to think with the tool: research with a paper trail, write without the generic voice, and build workflows you can run again next week.

Who it is for

Complete beginners

You have barely opened ChatGPT, or it still feels like a magic search box. A clear model of what it is, and a way to get a useful answer on purpose.

Everyday users

You ask simple questions and accept the first draft. How to steer, correct, and stop settling for generic output.

Productivity users

You want hours back in email, meetings, planning, and writing. Repeatable workflows, not one-off tricks.

Advanced users

You already prompt, and you want structure, research discipline, and quality control. Chaining, schemas, verification, and project design.

Power users

You want reusable systems: templates, assistants, and human-approved workflows. Judgment about tools, privacy, reliability, and when not to automate.

PRIME, the framework you will actually reuse

Every serious prompt in this course is built the same way. Memorize the five letters. The ten-part formula in Resources is the long version for hard tasks.

  1. PPurposeThe outcome, not the vibe. Name the decision, artifact, or change this answer must produce.
  2. RRole and readerWho ChatGPT should act as, and who will actually use the result. Role shapes judgment. Reader shapes language.
  3. IInputsFacts, materials, constraints, and what is already decided. If it is not in the input, the model may invent it.
  4. MMethodHow to do the work: steps, questions to ask first, what to check, and when to stop and ask you.
  5. EExpected formFormat, length, tone, an example of good, and the quality bar. Include how you want the revision to work.

Fifteen levels

Beginner, then intermediate, then advanced, then expert. Each level adds a skill. None of them exist to repeat the previous one.

  1. Level 1

    Understanding ChatGPT · beginner

Know what you are talking to, and what you should never trust on faith.

  2. Level 2

    Getting Started · beginner

Run a conversation on purpose: context, a clear ask, and a correction.

  3. Level 3

    Prompting Fundamentals · beginner

Use PRIME until a strong prompt is a habit, not a lucky accident.

  4. Level 4

    Prompt Engineering · intermediate

Choose a technique because the task needs it, not because it sounds advanced.

  5. Level 5

    Everyday Productivity · intermediate

Save real time on messages, planning, decisions, and learning.

  6. Level 6

    Work and Business · intermediate

Bring ChatGPT into professional work without handing it the decision.

  7. Level 7

    Writing and Content · intermediate

Direct the draft so it does not sound like everyone else's AI.

  8. Level 8

Research and Critical Thinking · advanced

Use AI to think more carefully, not to skip the evidence.

  9. Level 9

    Data and Analysis · advanced

Turn messy information into a structured read, and name the limits.

  10. Level 10

Files, Images, and Other Inputs · intermediate

Bring outside material in without being careless about privacy or accuracy.

  11. Level 11

    Advanced Workflows · advanced

Run longer work as a system: steps, templates, and a quality gate.

  12. Level 12

Customization and Personal Workflows · advanced

Make the assistant know how you work, without trusting memory blindly.

  13. Level 13

Coding and Technical Work · advanced

Read, request, test, and doubt code — no programming background required to start.

  14. Level 14

Automation and Advanced Workflows · expert

Design trigger, process, decision, and action — with a stop rule.

  15. Level 15

    Power User Masterclass · expert

Put the whole course to work on one hard problem, then judge the result.

Questions worth answering first

Do I need a paid ChatGPT plan?

No. The skills in this course work on a free account. Paid plans, when you have them, usually change usage limits and which tools are available. Limits and plan names change, so check your own account rather than memorizing a price table from any course.

Will this get me a job, a raise, or a business?

No course can promise that. What this one trains is practical: clearer thinking with AI, faster first drafts, tighter research habits, and workflows you can reuse at work. Your results still depend on your judgment and your field.

Is this an official OpenAI or xAI course?

No. It is an independent curriculum. ChatGPT is named only to identify the tool the lessons teach. OpenAI did not issue it, and xAI does not endorse it. Publishing the app does not change that.

How does payment work?

Level 1 is free. The full course is one payment on Gumroad, which sends you a receipt and a licence key to paste into the site. This site never sees your card. Refunds are available within 30 days.

Is the certificate an OpenAI certification?

No. Certificates here mark completion of this independent course only. They are not issued, endorsed, or recognized by OpenAI.

The ChatGPT screen I see does not match a lesson. Am I behind?

No. Buttons, model names, and menus move. Lessons teach the job a feature does, and they date anything that is product-specific. Look for the current control that does that job.

Can I paste client work, student records, or medical notes into ChatGPT?

Not by default. Level 10 and the privacy checklist cover this. Your employer, school, clients, and the law can set a stricter rule than this course. When in doubt, remove identifying details or don't paste it.

Do I need to know how to code?

No. Level 13 starts from reading code in plain language. Developers will still find the testing and security habits useful. You are never required to ship software to finish the course.

How should I move through the course?

In order if you are new. If you already prompt every day, skim Levels 1–3, then do the exercises anyway — the frameworks are the point. Do the level quiz before you open the next level. Save the capstone for the end.

How to get the result

  1. Do the lessons in order until the work feels easy, then speed up — do not skip the exercises.
  2. Paste the prompts into your own ChatGPT account. This course does not run the model for you.
  3. When a screen does not match a lesson, look for the job the lesson named. Dated product notes are labeled.
  4. Pass the level quiz before you treat that level as finished.
  5. Save the capstone for last. It uses the whole course on one problem.
